Howard Milstein Discusses Philanthropy in ‘Leaders’ Magazine

April 1st, 2012

Howard Milstein was interviewed by Leaders, a magazine that presents the broad range of leadership thoughts and visions of the world’s most influential people, about the Howard and Abby Milstein Foundation and his work in philanthropy. In the interview, Howard explains his belief in public-private partnerships to solve intractable problems in health and civic life and his unique approach to philanthropy, which brings aspects of venture capitalism to the organizations he leads and sponsors.

Howard discusses his approach to philanthropy and the Foundation’s work in education and medical research. Asked about problems that take time to solve, Howard says, “When tackling any complex problem, you need to have both a long-term vision of what you are trying to achieve and the ability to challenge conventional thinking. It has less to do with patience and more to do with focus and steadfastness, as it does in business. For too many companies, in the rush to meet the demands of the next quarter, there’s little thought given to the next quarter century and the next generation.”
